redirect user home folder (server 2003/ 2008; 2000 level AD)

Howdy all,
I am currently working on a schools network that has been very neglected. the PDC that contained the user home folders had had major hardware issues and  while we have been able to recover the raw data windows is SOL. I have installed a new server 2008 box that I have set up as the PDC and it contains the salvaged data from the server.
I was able to salvage the AD info from the Secondary domain controller.
my question is how do change the user home folder; I would love to do this with a script. Also, I need to also reassign folder permissions based off of users.
Note the folders are structured as \group\username.

thanks for the help

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
