Licensing Win2k Terminal Server with a Win2k8 License server

Can somebody please advise us regarding an important Terminal Server licensing question?

We have the following domain configuration:

A Forest root domain – contains Windows 2008 DCs (Functional level Windows 2000)

1 x Child domain - contains Windows 2008 and Windows 2000 DCs (Functional level Windows 2000)

Also in the child domain we have 20+ Windows 2000 Terminal Servers, and 10 Windows 2008 Terminal Servers

The Windows 2000 Terminal Servers are licensed by license servers installed on the Windows 2000 DCs

The Windows 2008 Terminal Servers are licensed by Windows 2008 license server (not running on a DC).

We are in the process of gradually demoting the Windows 2000 DCs so we end up with just a Windows 2008 domain in order to raise the functional level.

Questions:

1.) Can the Windows 2000 Terminal servers be licensed by the Windows 2008 license server or will the Windows 2000 TSs cease to be issued licenses when the last Windows 2000 DC / license server is removed?

2.) If  we can use the 2008 license server, what changes would need to be made to Windows 2000 TSs or the 2008 license server?

Thanks in advance

Thanks dr linux,

I'm on holiday at home the minute but thought I'd ask around on Experts in the meantime. So as soon as I'm back in the office I'll give that number a call.

If anyone has a definitve answer in the meantime, I'd appreciate it?

Thanks.

Chucky - believe it or not, the reason we need to keep our Win2k TSs is due to an old 16 bit app which runs only on Win2k - our users still need it for the next year, then we will go to all Win2k8 TS for our new app which replaces it.

Thanks to all for the advice - I think this gives me more research to do on this one.
