asked on

jetdirect and print server

We have windows 2003 print cluster.
the usual method of adding a printer is to install drivers on the virtual server and add the queue. in windows 2000 print cluster, we used to install drivers on both nodes and create the queue on the virtual server.

1- I would like to know what s the difference between, a printer Jetdirect and the regular printer? do they have any difference in setting up their queues
2 how to install a Jetdirect printer ?
3-If I need to setup print preferences that would apply for end users , how can I do it from the print queue?

Thanks

Is Jetadmin used just to assign a print device a new IP address and hostname without being physical at the print device console?

I usually hear admins say that such and such printer is a tcp/ip printer or IP printer, what does that mean?
Does that mean it is not serviced by the print server? if so , should we still go to the print server and add printer and select tcp/ip and enter the Ip address?

Actually it's the only method that I know on how to create a new network printer is to add printer, select tcp/ip , provide the ip address of the print device.
any other method on creating new printers?

in other words. if I add a print queue to the print cluster and set it up by IP address or hostname, does that mean when users connect to it they will print  to it without going through the print cluster?
