Can not connect to remote Desktop

I can not connect to remote computer on my home network which is set to private in windows 7 home prem using the linksys e2000 router?  Connecting to VPN is not a problem on home network . But when I bring computer to a wifi place I can connect to the remote desktop.

What errors do you get?

Possibly, your "wifi place" blocks the usage of certain ports. Please verify by using PortQuery: http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/d/9/0d9d81cf-4ef2-4aa5-8cea-95a935ee09c9/PortQryV2.exe ->unzip it and use the

Syntax: PortQry.exe -n targetIP -e 3389
The output should be (if that port 3389 [rdp] can be reached)
querying...

TCP port 3389 (ms-wbt-server service): LISTENING
Should the computer I am trying to remote from have port 3389 LISTENING.
That does not matter. I wrote targetIP - put in the IP of the machine you are connecting to.
I just ran netstat -an on the target IP and get 0.0.0.0:3389 LISTENING
Fine. What error message do you face?
Sorry it took so long but the error I get when I try to connect with name is  User generated imageand when I enter the ip address I get this error: User generated image
So now back to portquery. netstat did only tell you that the port is opened, portquery would tell you that it can be reached from remote.
Sorry portqry.exe  is not working for me.
OK. Then please install telnet. It can be installed as a windows feature (open application wizard aka appwiz.cpl and go to windows features).
telnet targetIP 3389
Did it and I get message connect failed.
