HP Laptop System Restore

I have an HP 9700 model laptop and have had it since 2008.  Over the past few months I've been experiencing trouble related to infections from virus' and malware.  Based on recommendations from other experts I'd used multiple pieces of software to try to eliminate these items but I'm still having trouble.  Ultimately, I'd like to format the drive, reinstall Windows and start fresh.  Years ago, this is what I'd do when my older machines started acting funny and I always loved the fact that I could just start fresh.
However, the laptop didn't come with any physical CD so unless I order them from HP I'm forced to used their system restore utility which claims to be able to reset the PC back to the original factory settings.  I'm wondering if this will format the driver and reinstall the software (what I want) or if it just overwrites the current files.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

In my experience, the install from the HP system partition will totally re-install the OS and factory apps.

First i am just following up on this so i don't deserve points
I checked your manual and you have three options
You can use your onboard os system restore utility that will preserve data
or Restore from recovery disc that you are responsible to make..will not preserve data
or use Your recovery partition which as your previous post tells you will not preserve data
ACCORDING TO YOUR MANUAL YOU DO NOT HAVE A RECOVERY PARTITION IF YOU
HAVE A SOLID STATE HARDDRIVE
here are the screen shots for the three alternatives:
