Need to set the group umask for a user to rw

I've been requested to add a user to a solaris box as follows:

Group:  groupname1
Home Dir: /export/home/username1
UMASK:  Group RW

Not sure what needs to be done to set the umask for the group.... ?

umask 002

will give rwxrwxr-x for directories and rw-rwr for files because the umak value is subtracted from 777 for directories and from 666 for files.

I this is a nis user however... if I do it there it will set it for every box they log on to correct?
No, unless the user's home directory (and thus .profile) is shared (via NFS, maybe with automount) between all affected machines.
