Multiple domains from one root folder

Is is possible to serve multiple domains from the same root folder?  If so how is this achieved on an apache server?

1st half: Yes, assuming that they are all hosting the identical data or are using a DB based CMS (such as drupal) that sorts that for you based on host headers.

2nd half assuming that they are hosting the identical data you do it all via DNS, apache needs no configuration.

So the question is: Are you wanting to host different looking websites from one root folder?

Maybe an example will explain it easier than trying to answer your question as I am not sure of the correct answer.

website one and website two will be owned by two different companies.  The two sites will have the exact same dynamic functionality, but their data will be different.
I am just trying to figure out a way to do this so that I do not have to maintain multiple sets of files every time a change is made to the system.
