Relational Databases and Workstation Disk Caching

Hello Experts,

I am working with a small software vendor that provides a dental practice management program. They recommend that disk caching be disabled on all workstations to avoid problems with corruption updates to the database and which does make sense to me but I have not heard of doing that before. Could someone shed some light and give me some feedback?

Thanks!

What is your OS/filesystem?

Some of them have the "dio" (direct I/O) mount option whose effect is bypassing the cache.
