asked on

sonicwall and java downloads/updates

i have a sonicwall pro 2040 with content, gateway, and Intrusion filtering.

i am not sure why, but java updates fail.  if i take a laptop.desktop connected to the sonicwall, that fails, and connect it to my backup internet connection, that just goes through your typical consumer router, the updates go through w/o any issues.

the problem is somewhere within the sonicwall.

i have checked the option never block java for trusted sites, but entering in java.com doesnt seem to do the trick.  maybe java.com is not where the updates/downloads are coming from?

does anyone have any ideas before i call sonicwall?

i will try what you said and get back to you.

the biggest problem is that i can only test this when i see the java icon pop up...

i dont know how to force it to look for an update.

thanks.

i unchecked that option and i found a PC on the network that was asking for a java update.

it downloaded it and i am installing it now.

just to double check...next time i see a PC that needs a java update, i am going to check that box again and see if the java fails...again, just to double check.

thanks.
also, thanks for the manual update process instructions, i will try this now.
ok, now that i see that java icon screen in control panel, i remember going to it before (a few months ago) i wanted to see if there was a url in there.  now it is all coming back, i forgot about the update button there.

thanks again.
no problem.  looking forward to hearing your findings.
ok, thanks, that was it.

i checked that box in the sonicwall, i pressed update in the java settings, it gave me a connection failed message.

i unchecked the box in the sonicwall, applied the settings, checked the update button in the java settings, and the update downloaded and it is installing now.

perfect...good info.
great...glad to hear you had success!  thanks for the points!
no problem.  thanks for the quick reply that solved my problem on the first shot!
does anybody know of a solution to allow java through without turning off the gateway anti-virus?  I do NOT want to have to do this for each PC to update Java, and I surely do NOT want to leave the Gateway AV off...
