What does the *32 mean after .exe?

I purchased an HP laptop with Win 7 home premium 64 Bit OS.  in task manager, a lot of the processes I see running have *32 after the .exe extension?
 What does it mean?
Does this have anything to do with 64 vs. 32 bit OS?

You are right ... it means that you are running a 32-bit application/process on a 64-bit operating system.
Yes it means that they are 32 bit processes not 64.  Lots of aplications and drivers etc are stll only available in 32 bit versions, this is why u see *32
32bit drivers can not be used on an X64 system.
As other pointed out, the *32 means that the process in whose name it appears is indeed a 32bit application.

It is not a reflection either way on the system just that the application in question is not 64bit.
IE comes in both versions on your system.

Thanks, all three of you.  So now;  what do i do about them, if anything?  Based on Arnold's comment, it seems the .exe *32 would not run properly but they seem to run OK, IMHO.  Even my firewall/anit-virus application is *32.

How big an issue is it having applications run as *32.

I am increasing the points for this question to a full 500 due to my extended inquiry.
