I look at smart names while travelling around and usually put them low on my list. I am already in business for myself, have been for a long while, and occasionally suggest additional professional consultants to my clients to aid where I have not got the skills (no one has all the technology skills). None of the consultants I suggest or engage are "Smart Company etc etc".

For the most part, if you are a one person shop, you will likely want your name it.

what difference would it make if you would have seen "teddy bear windows" instead of "Microsoft windows"?  Windows would still be the same.

You would still buy "DELL" or  "Apple"  computers even if they sounded "ABC" or "Guava".......... i guess the quality matters, not the name.

Best,

There is difference for customers. For sure! :)

Maybe some mix! :) Something with your name/nick etc...

e.g. smardav :)
>>> i guess the quality matters, not the name.

Absolutely!

And to the earlier point about growing, you can always change a company name if that happens. This is really easy if you are incorporated.  I have thought of changing my company name since my business has morphed into something different that when I started. However, I stick with the name because customer are far, far more interested in the quality of my work and my integrity.

I agree with you all Experts, in one hand, the name should be a private brand and easy spelling, in the other hand it is the quality not the name of course, but we have the idea to proove the quality before anything else, when you start a company, the first thing you think about is how to satisfy a client so you can win him for a long term contract. Smart is just a suggestion by myself, the problem is that all domains are taken, few are available with 2 terms for exemple : smart-technologies or something similar... the company we are starting is about networking, cabling, installing small to medium networks for companies from switches to routers and servers etc ...

@speagw all these names are good but i don't find an attractive one based on your suggestions :S i'm sorry
david875 - You are probably better off choosing your own name. It is one you have to live with. Also, you should pick a couple because you need to take the proposed names to a lawyer and make sure you can use one of them without infringing on other people or companies. ... Thinkpads_User
I agree with you @thinkpads_use, i just have an idea in mind i want to share with you guys, the company name can also be something enigmatic for exemple, if Dell doesn't exist, and i registred Dell as my domain will anyone know about it? because as you said, you work hard to get a value to your company, if i failed who is this guy that will care about Dell or what it produces, right?
I think you should go with "David 875".

Or perhaps just "875".
You have two issues (beyond picking a name) to be concerned with.

1. The company name has nothing to do with web names and may be owned by someone else (inactive). You need a lawyer to search it out. My company name has a close match in the US. My lawyer explained the risks, but I went with my choice anyway. That was a decade ago, and nothing has come of it. In the meantime, I have created my own value.

2. Then you want to see if you can convert the company name into a web domain. This can be much more problematic. You do want the name first.  Once you register a domain, anyone *can* know about it. Will anyone? Probably not.

Does anyone care about you? (or about me?) Probably not. What people care about is infringement on names.

IainMacb  - I would be inclined not to use my company name here and vice-versa. .. Thinkpads_User
'Thinkpads user' - You're right about not using the company name here.

But 'David875' obviously means something to David875. Use that as the company name. Easy to get a new identity here.
