copy a database without mysqldump

Hello

If i wanted to copy a database from one machine to another without doing a mysql dump how could i do it?

What files/folders would i need to copy ?

Is there any reason why this isn't advisable. I have a huge database on a very slow machine and producing a mysqldump will take days whereas copying the files will take hours.

thanks

There are also features in HeidiSQL for example that allow you to create copies of database to different machines.

The technique is uses is a lot of SELECT and INSERT statements so this also might not be suitable for your data.
