how to check if a file exists on a remote machine in linux

Hi,

are there any linux commands that i can use to find out with a file exists on a remote machine?

hi tanmay,

thanks for the links. i think it is alittle overkill for me.

What i want to do is just to find out if a file exits on a remote machine... maybe like

rsh to the remote machine and ls abc.xml

if it does not exists it will return me "ls : abx.xml no such file or directory", just want a cleaner way of doing it.
Why don't you mount the remote volume using nfs and the do a simple ls?
