Adobe photoshop 5 extended : playing with layers.
Hello,
since I'm trying to cut and paste layers from a picture to another,I would find a way to remove the white spaces all around the face that you can see on the screenshot that I've attached. It takes too time consuming to use the lazo tool each time to refine the contours of the layers that I need to use.

Click the arrow next to the eraser tool and choose Magic Eraser. Then click on the whitespace. There are some settings that will show at the top about the sensitivity and such that you might play with to get it right.

Hello,
I've used the magic eraser and I have erased the white spaces all around the layer. After doing this,I've saved the layers without the white spaces and I have open it again. Again the white spaces are appeared. Each time that I open a layer should I delete the white spaces or can I do it one time only so that it works everytime ?

Once you have deleted the whitespace, it should be gone. Maybe your image background is set to white and you think there is whitespace on the layer when it's actually not. If you create a new image with transparent background, copy and paste a layer and see if the whitespace is still there.

how can I create a transparent background ?
when you go to File -> New, there should be an option for the background.

When I save the image with a transparent background and I open it again, the background comes back to be white. Why ? Check the picture attached.

The screenshot shows what happens when I open a picture saved with a transparent background...
