LOG FILE

MSSQL 2005
ISSUE:
I have a customer with a server that has a 4 GB data file and a 40 GB log file and 9 MB of free disk space.

When an update or insert is attempted a log file is full message appears.  If I try to backup the data file to an external drive a log file is full message appears.

Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue will be appreciated.

How doy you backup your database.

I gess you justa do a full backup once a while... so you should switch to simple backup (go to database properties and change it)
backup will not do a thing either...HAS to be a trans log backup.
