LOG FILE and SIMPLE MODE

MSSQL 2005 AND MSSQQL 2008

I have a customer that does a daily complete backup.  If a restore ever becomes necessary they will restore to the last backup.

They are having a problem with their LOG file growing really large.  It’s my understand if the recover mode is changed from Full to Simple this will still meet their recovery needs.

If the recovery mode is changed form Full to Simple does this stop the log file from growing or what should be done to maintain a reasonable log file.

Yes. when you backup the database, it truncates the transaction log.

In simple mode, the backup truncates the transaction log
Nope, in simple mode the checkpoint process truncates the log.  It just so happens that a full backup performs a checkpoint as the first operation.
This is why when you don't have replication and when you just do full backups MUST use Simple mode
