Do I need to add permissions for SYSTEM to my backup dirs?

I have developed backup system for my work PC. It is a workstation with separate system and tmp, data, and backup drives. The backup runs every 180 minutes, and backups or syncs all to backup drive.

The question is - must I grant full permission to SYSTEM? My main concern are viruses and such, had at least two major issues with them.

The current state is that I have read permission for me, and full for system and backupexec. I reluctantly added full for system.

Thanks!

(I don't use ntbackup.)

Thanks, wanted to hear that about the SYSTEM. Compromising SYSTEM seems the easiest task, than to guess accounts. Thus, important data could be deleted that way.
