Connection timed out - Apple Mac

When attempting to establish a connection to a Netgear DG834G Wireless router, I get the error message 'Network timed out'. I've tried the router on WPA,WPA2 and WEP encryption settings, to no avail. I also have an iPhone which cannot connect, however a windows machine can.

No, in theory the router is set up to work correctly when the devices connect.

The solution turned out to be the wireless broadcast channel. Changed it from auto to 6 and it worked.
