asked on

installing perl on windows 64-bit

hello I recently installed perl on a windows 64 bit OS.

I usually run perl on windows xp 32 bit, and always point on my scripts to use perl lib

#!/usr/local/bin/perl

I also see that on windows xp perl installs to c:\usr\

on windows 64 bit i see that has changed to: c:\Perl64\

do i need tochange the line #!/usr/local/bin/perl to something else?

please advice.

thank you much.

The "hash-bang" line is completely ignored by Windows.  It makes sense only in UNIX-based systems.  The "usr" directory is also the convention from Unix.  It could be the case that you earlier used some distribution of Perl (say) created for cygwin or similar Unix/Windows utility bridge.  Anyway, Windows do not care about "usr".

If the Perl works for you on your Windows, the "#!..." line is simply ignored (better to say, considered a comment).  You do not need to touch it on another Windows with Perl installed on some other place.  If you use the same script on Linux, keep the line ready for your Linux.  If you use it only on windows, the line need not to be there at all.
