BartPE help in building a boot CD

A long time ago I built a BartPE CD and was able to use it to take a 'Vanilla' back up image which I now want to restore but i have lost the Bart boot CD i built all that time ago

I still have the OEM (Hewlett Packard) supplied OS CD and was able to install BartPE on the target machine and run PE Builder v3.1.10a and wnet with the defaults during the install and build and tried to go ahead and Burn the CD as part of the process but realised the source path to the Windows Installation files was the same drive I needed to put the CD in. At this point I got confused and would appreciate some help please.

I want to build a straight forward boot CD in the fewest possible steps.

best is you make a folder on the HDD, eg I386 where you copy the files from the install CD you need - then proceed
This frees up your cd drive

You can use virtual CD drive which enables you to mount iso images from your hard disk. You can create the iso images using Nero or any other similar SW (WinISO, Alcohol 120%, ...etc) and then mount it by UltraISO and get your CD burned right from the virtual CD.

thanks for the feedback
jimyX - the link you gave me is exactly where i started from and those instructions are the ones i followed. I placed my original windows CD in the drive and then followed everything else at default settings so that I created the C:\pebuilder3110a  folder structure
I have all of that. where I am stuck is how do i create a BartPE boot CD now?
See attached screenshot

Please remember I do not want to use any 3rd party software  ... i thought a BartPE boot CD could be created without the need for any other software such as Nero

Did you select "Burn to CD/DVD" and select your CD Drive at "Device:"?

"Invalid source path. cannot find C:\pebuilder3110a\BartPE\I386\INF\i386\setupldr.bin"

What about the "source: path to Windows Installation files" is it pointing to the correct Windows source files/folder that you copied?

Author

Commented:
Yes ...have double checked the path and it is correct and contains files

OK, let's copy from the CD drive. Place the Win CD in the CD Drive and set the output to ISO file and Build.

Also one more thing set the source to "C:\pebuilder3110a\BartPE\" and make sure that all the Win files/folders are located right there.

I did follow your advice and copied my original OEM Windows CD to the desktop as i386 but when i tried to use it as the source BartPE said a file was missing?

what file?  it looks like you did something wrong ..
i suggest starting from fresh : delete everything, download the files again - then start

What was that 1 Error and 1 Warning?

Also did you test it in another machine?

And if possible try to make another test but with different source of Windows.
