Backup Exec Services

Hi

For no specific reason since about 3 weeks my Symnatec Backup Exec Server 12 is having weird problems. I'm loosing the communication with the server and when I check the services are shut down. No new updates are installed. If I manually restart the services it is working but 2 ou 3 days later I have to restart the services again.

Backup Exec 12 Windows Server Service Pack 5 + updates 358179 and 141388 installed.

Does anybody knows how to fix this issue?

Have you checked the event viewer to see if there are any errors that cause the services to stop? There could be a variety of issues from conflicts with other applications to a corrupt BE database.

Everything it says is that the service have stop.

What other applications are running on this server? What are some of its functions?
We used Backup Exec in my old company, I scheduled a service restart every night, as I encountered simmilar problems as you have. Along with restarting all agents on all servers.

I found that every time Windows Internal Database Service Pack 4 (KB2463332) is trying to install and failling the Backup Exec services are shutting down. Do you know how I can force this MS Update to install? Maybe I will fix my problem this way.

What other applications are running on this server? If you have SQL instances other than BE, you could stop BE and see if the installation runs. You could also look at the Windows Update logs to see if there is another reason the install is failing. On some MS updates that fail, I simple restart the server and the installation is successful. If the BE instance of SQL is the only one on the system, then stop all BE services except the SQL instance and try installing it. It may be trying to install at night (default is usually 3am) while backup jobs are running.
