WMI is a Windows only service.  Your SAN likely does not have a WMI service and you will not be able to run that scan.

Any idea if Nessus supports a different option for the same type of scan?

Is the SAN not attached to a Windows machine?  You should be able to scan the files on the drive of the Windows machine.

Right, but a Windows machine must attach to the shares in some fashion, mapping a drive letter correct?

Run the scan on that machine.
