What are the minimum tools needed to manage and monitor a proliant ML 350

HP Proliant ML 350 G5

When you only have one single server in your environment, what are the tools you need installed on the server (Windows 2003) in order to monitor and maintain that server? There are so many tools that SmartStart installs.

I want to be able to:

1) Monitor the health of the server, including the RAID controller and drives
    - Events are best sent to the Event Logs in Windows rather than SNMP
2) Keep the server up to date with the latest drivers and firmware
3) Set up ILO

I want to be sure i"m using the proper tools, and also that I don't have MORE installed than I need.

HP's site is WAY too convoluted to find a simple answer :)

You'll need to download and install the current Proliant Support Pack for your server and operating system.

You'll need to download and install HP Systems Insight Manager.

To be honest with you, the latest version of HP Systems Insight Manager is designed to manage many servers, and is probably over the top for a single server.

If you were to install the SNMP Event monitoring software (provided in the Proliant Support Pack), it can email you if there is an alert or hardware issue, when it triggers SNMP).

Version Control Agent, which manages firmware and drivers, is only available through HP SIM.

If you could find a really really reallly old version of Systems Insight Manager (CIM), this would work better for you, but may not support your newer server.
