OWA asking for username password beofre i get to login screen on SBS2003

I have stupidly clicked on remove anonymous access on the default web site on IIS under SB2003 the applied it to the child site as instructed.

Although I have reversed this process, I cannot get it to allow me to connect to OWA ith first entering the domain\username - password in te box that comes up (almost like NTFS permissions)

although once I now enter these it gives me access the the login page, of course I now cannot connect with any mobile phones / iphone.

I have done the following:
ran the repair internet and email setting wizard, disabled SSL on all sites / sub sites, etc,
made sure that FBA is enabled in exchange
Any advise welcome.  Never had this before.

I have full SS backup but no IIS metabase backup doh!

Ensure the exchange-oma directory is set to allow Basic Auth.
Have you tried rerunning the Configure E-Mail and Internet Connection Wizard.? That will normally sort the virtual directories out for you.
