Interacting with live data with Deep Zoom and Pivot

What can anyone tell me about how to interast with these tools using live data, which means interacting programmatically with Deep Zoom and Pivot?

Also, what are the costs?

Any idea if there is a cost to using Pivot? I hear Deep Zoom is open sourced...
