Skype - change sound

In Skype is there a way to customize so that when a particular contact becomes available, a sound unique to that contact is played?

I just tried it, seems like exactly what you need. Will cost $5 to register (after one month trial).

There is also another one:

This one doesn't mention any price, not on the website, and not after installing it. This one can only play a sound, but from your problem description, that seems to be sufficient.

Make sure Skype is running, then download one of the file from the url's above, and if nothing happens already there, then double-click the downloaded file in your web browser.

Skype will ask you if it should give the downloaded program access, and after confirming, you will be able to configure the options (in your case which users need notification).

I tried both, but neither appears. I am on OS X, so they may no support it.

Hmm, that's correct, both are for Windows only...

I found this for Mac, but the notifications seem to be visual instead of through a sound:
