after some research it appears this is due to over utilization of the graphics subsystem - windows detects a degraded frame rate and throws this error...

suggestion is to install latest video card drivers...what video card make and model are you running?

it could be embedded but updating drivers seems to be at least one viable solution.

let us know, thanks!

This could be due to too much stress on the graphics system.
Try to disable the Aero theme:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-aero-on-windows-vista/
and also make sure transparency is not enabled:

Reboot and check for changes.

You need check the detailed info in Event Log (Start->eventvwr.exe), find if there is any information under "system" category. The log will tell you which program or process cause the issue.

OK , I stopped a number of unecessary services and tasks from starting and suggested that having 23 FF tabs open simultaneously along with Photoshop was a bit too much and the problem seems to have disappeared.
