Demo Version has expired

Good afternoon,
My farther in law has purchased an Andoid tablet for his birthday, he managed to use it for 24 hours before it came up with 'Demo has expired', he then passed it to me to fix.

I have removed everything I can from the software applications list, but still the message appears.

I have performed a hard reset on the device, and still get the same message.

I have a feeling someone has already attempted to flash the device, as I cannot access any of the software license agreements, and I can take screen shots (something I thought that only rooted devices could do).

I have looked around and other people are saying to flash the firmware, but I have no identifiable information of the device, so wondering if there is a generic ROM image, or does anyone have any suggestions?

ASKER

It was to the point of telling me I purchased a duff unit :-)

Is there a generic firmware I can flash the device with? Ive never done this with a tablet before, so do you know of any guides or places I can download the images?

Sorry to ask this, but I cant seem to find any guides on setting these up?

Is there a bootloader I need to load first, or is there an tftp client to use?

Maybe I should open a new thread for a time-machine to build more time, Im sure thats definatly a product we could all use :-)

Hi,

First, connect it to a WiFi enabled internet connection - that might clear the demo version expired message?

With regards to re-flashing the unit, simply format a 1 GB SD card (FAT32) and then extract the one of the zip files above (suggest M3CSL or the last one). Copy the script folder and its entire contents to the SD card, plut it in the tablet and boot it up.

Android bootloader will find the new ROM and begin the flashing process.

Connecting it to wifi didnt help :-( left it connected overnight and still issue.

Performed the suggestions, M3CSL seemed to go through ok, however still had 'Demo version has expired', which was strange. The other 2 didnt work at all, infact it now doesnt work at all at the moment, I think Ive bricked it, so now need to figure out how to un-brick it first :-S
Hi,

You should be able to put the M3CSL ROM back on the MicroSD card and re-flash.

If the device is unresponsive, allow the battery to drain, re-connect power and then switch it on.

Do you have any model/part number to help identify what the recovery mode key combination migth be?

Ive put the M3CSL Rom back in, but its still saying 'Demo version has expired', although there were no errors during the upgrade, there was no notification to say 'Done' Any ideas?
Or does anyone know of any more images?
