I logged on and found our servers at paused-critical and when i stopped a server it began to merge data. i found 80 gigs of snapshots even though no snap shots were running.

also our server had 3 gigs of free space but they would not operate till we freed up 4,
is there a setting to decrease the active snap shot to less than 80?

The snapshots (.AVHD files) are not deleted until you stop the machine and allow the merge to be carried out (as you found out!).

To restrict the size of the snapshots you need to delete them more regularly before they get to the sizes you are talking about.

On the Vm machine under settings \ Management \ Intergration Services there is a addon called Backup (Volume snapshots). This addon causes the .avhd's to be created.

After making a vm without this addon it does't create .avhd files without me manually creating snapshots Smile
