generally we are told to sit in the front of the bus to avoid being tossed up. is that true even in modern buses? any real advantage to being seated in the back?

in the back you do get bounced around more because the wheels are typically up more from the back of the bus.  The further you are away from the wheels the more you will get bounced around.

In the back though you don't have all the traffic passing you, and also you don't have people staring at the back of your head.  That is if that worries you. :P

But you have to walk further to get on and off the bus...
