after windows updates on a server 2003 box i get:

stop c0000221 unknown hard error
/systemroot/system32/ntdll.dll



safe mode it so far is stuck on acpitabl.dat

the array says functional.


help.

it cannot boot.

you could use the recovery console to try and replace the corrupt file. Or Run a repair on your current installation.

renamed the update.sys and then copied from cd - rebooted. same issue.

Try turning off hyperthreading (especially if it's an HP box)
Try 'Last Known Good'
Microsoft gives free support with network down issues related to updates.
Look at this:

I ended up replacing ntdll.dll from an image and it fixed it.  

Great tip about the ms updates!
