Adjust DSi Brightness in Game?

Is there a way to adjust the brightness of a DSi when you are already in a game? I know how to adjust it from the main menu, but I was hoping for some quick adjustment when playing.

May depend on the game - are you able to hold down Select and use the Volume Control in game without affecting gameplay?
That should allow you to directly affect the brightness settings.
