SBS 2008 Backup Problems

I've been looking through EE and have seen various reports of the issues we are having with our SBS 2008 backup, but none of the fixes have resolved our issue.

A similar problem is here..

We have SBS 2008 with 2 x toshiba external HDD's for backup. This has worked well for around 2 months where the customer swaps the drives each day and takes one offsite.

From end of last week, the drives were showing on SBS 2008 backup as offline and the backup failing. The drive was still showing in device manager.

Rebooting the server fixed the issue but I think the problem will occur again in a few days/weeks.

I have checked power management in USB root host in device manager and that is switched off.

Any help would be appreciated.

The one occasion where I had this happen (2 drives and would reconnect after reboot for a few days) I removed the drives from the backup set, reformatted the drive, put back in the backup set and allowed SBS to take possession and do its formating, and named the drive something else. Seems to have resolved for 4 months now. Don't whatever you do wipe both backups at the same time.

You may also find the first time the server is backing up the report may show backup still in progress and the first backup is a full system, not incremental.
