I am running Brightstor 11.5 on Windows 2003 server, the tape library is a Dell 132T. I have an existing backup rotation that performs two full backups a week and differential backups nightly (with the exception of the two nights that the full backups run). I want to add a monthly backup and a quarterly backup. How can I do this?  Can I add it to the rotation or do I need to create two new additional jobs?

Also, I need to take one weekly full backup offsite every week. How can I do this and then reintroduce the tapes back into the library? I would also want to take the monthly and quarterly offsite as well.

Thanks

There are three types of jobs
GFS - daily + weekly + monthly
rotation - rotates a different tape each day and each week reuses the tapes
custom - almost any way you like

There is not a provision for a Quarterly in either the GFS or rotation. The way to go is add a new job using the Custom configuration, Repeat Method is Day of the Month and either choose the 31st for the end of each month or the 1st. Which day depends on the start time, if it is prior to midnight then you want to select the 31st, if it is after midnight then select the 1st.

When removing or adding tapes to the library use either the Import/Export or Regular Inventory to update ARCserve.

I'm a firm believer that what is "right" is what is "right for you" even if the question seems the same, ultimately it is for you to say what is right for you and for me to just advice. That said, to me it makes sense to setup an additional job. It seems there is a special need for this and so having it in its own job will make it a whole lot easier for you to administer it. It will be much easier to see if the job was successful, how much was processed etc.

Consider this under Backup Schedule - Custom, Repeat Method - Every, Every - Month(s). Then you can set it for every Month, every 4 months whatever. The date you run the job will be the day it runs every month. If you run it on the 30th it will reschedule it self for the # of months specified later. If the month only has 28 days it will run on the 28th.
