How to recover from an 'old' Exchange 2003 database?

Due to lack of disk space and disk failure, another admin moved existing Journal database to another drive and mounted a fresh Journal database. Now I need to restore email data from the edb file of old Journal database.

What is my best option? Thanks.

Have you got a backup of that database? What you could do is mount it to the Recover Storage Group and restore from there.

No, their latest backups were to the disk which failed.

What you could do is mount the edb onto the Recovery Storage Group and than copy mails from there to the "new" database.

Here's some more information:

I also had to use this article since database failed to mount with "error 0x80040102 starting database" (Event ID 9519).
