New to the report writer in 9. Need to print a chart only in preview mode only. Or when printed have the chart print only if the printer supports color. Biggest issue, want to see the chart when preview, but when the end user selects print from the toolbar. I don't want the chart to print on paper if the printer does not support color. Using VFP9.0 sp 2. on windows xp.

I never did such a report with an optional object in preview but not for printing. In theory reportlistener enables you to create different outputs for preview and output, see OutputType property and OuptputPage() method.

Also see the help topic "Extending Reports at Run Time".

Nevertheless, I'd suggest you do a form showing a chart as a "preview" and two report versions with and wihtout the chart.

In regard to find out, if a printer can print color, I haven't found something helpful, but Windows API should have functions to determine printer settings and capabilities like color printer or b/w.

Bye, Olaf.
