Outlook task hanging after Lync client installed
Hey experts,
So we are loading up our new Lync communication server.
We have noticed this on ALL our client computers that when outlook it closed the process never stops so we cannot reopen outlook until we manually end the process.
We have Outlook 2010, 2007 with the issues.
If we disable the addin "online meeting add-in for Microsoft Lync 2010" then we are able to just fine close out. The issue is we have a lot of computers this will be installed on and will be a big pain if we have to do this on them all!!
Has anyone see this issue before?

When outlook refuses to close completely, I would recommend disabling the Add-ons within outlook and see if you get the same issue. You can usually ID the culprit add on and then further deal with the issue.
That's my 2 cents.

I already know the cause as stated in my question.

I haven't seen this specific issue yet, but Lync does rely on Outlook to make some address book queries and if those are dying or having issues, I can see where Outlook would hang. What version of Exchange are you running, and have you cheked your OAB infrastructure? Are you using EWS, public folders, or both to distribute the OAB? ...my thoughts currently are along those lines being this hasn't been a widespread reported issue.

Is this Microsoft TS or are you using Citrix?
If you are using Citrix EdgeSight Monitoring try excluding Outlook and Lync from the monitoring.

Did you try to enable Tracing?
Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableTracing $true
Did the Problem persist?
To try to figure out what is stopping the process from exiting, download Process Explorer from Sysinternals and check which processes are loaded into the Outlook Process at the time it hangs and test if outlook still hangs then. Remove the ones that you can remove - like e.g. your Antivirus.

If you need the add-in, add the fully qualified domain for the Exchange CAS server to the Local Intranet sites.
