I think we have changed the admin password on our Netgear GSM7248 managed switch to one which includes illegal characters as we now can not log into it :-(

Other than a factory reset is there anyway of recovering the unit?

Afaik, netgear doesn't have a way to change the password when it's lost by means of a boot interrupt and fiddling with the register (like cisco). I'm afraid you really need to factory reset it.

Thanks,
As I expected, unfortunately.

Just a quick update.
This switch only allows 8 characters in its passwords.
If you enter more than 8 characters it only stores the first 8.
If you then try to login with more than 8 it takes them into account and indicated a failed login.

For example if you try to change the password to: abcdefghij (10 characters) it will store abcdefgh as the password.
If you then try to login with all ten characters if fails the login.

Hope this helps someone else :-)
