EXCEL Spreadsheet as DataSource for Crystal Reports XI

An Excel spreadsheet is being created that I want to use as a Datasource in Crystal.  I was able to create a DAO connection using EXCEL 8.0.  I'd like to know if there is a better way to do this.  Can I create an ODBC connection from the Excel spreadsheet instead? Do I need to register a DLL first.  Help, please!!!

If you have an ODBC Excel driver, you probably can use it.

I have built them for simple reports and always just used the Access/Excel connection method which I believe is DAO.
