Iterate text files to modify a string

I am in windows 7, I am looking at a way to go through all the text files in a directory or multiple files to modify a string (Search and replace).

Is there some good utilites that is free in Windows I can use.

EditPlus works great for this.

Or do you need to be able to do it in a command-line batch procedure?
