Need basic help with Intranet

Our firm has a new intranet web server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.  I just installed IIS 7.5 and the Web Deployment Tool, and that all seems to be working well.  When I start IE on the server, the IIS 7.0 Welcome screen is shown as it should.

Next I wrote a simple ASP.net (VS 2010) web project that just displays "Hello World" on my development computer.  Then I published this web project to our new intranet server and that went well.

However, when I start IE8 on my development computer and type in the name of our intranet server, I get the "IIS 7 Welcome" screen and not my "Hello World" web form.

As I am new to web development, I assume that I need to copy the "Hello World" default.aspx file(s) to some other directory other than the folder it currently is in?

I think this is a pretty simple start-up question.

Thank you for the guidance.

If you have put your aspx page into the root folder of the website then it should pick it up ok. Bring up the properties for the website and check the order for default pages. Chances are that the index.html ranks higher than your default.aspx page.

OK I put the Default.aspx file from my web project into C:\inetpub\wwwroot\.  Then I brought up the properties for the website and moved Default.aspx to the top.  (It was at the bottom.)

When I started IE and typed in "http://localhost/", I got an error message that said I needed to change the app pool from v2.0 to v4.0.  So I downloaded and installed .Net Framework 4.0 and made the change.

Then I started IE again and it generated an error saying that there is a problem reading the configuration file for the Web server or Web application.  So I deleted my Web.Config file in the wwwroot folder. Then I refreshed IE again and it brought up the IIS Welcome window as if my default.aspx were not there.

I have included the web.config code from my app below in case that could help.

What did the error say? Also at the bottom of the error page it should have the .Net version number, make sure that that is being reported as 4.0.*

From my local development computer, when I type in IE:  "http://tta-intranet/default.aspx", I see "Hello World" which is what I want to have happen.

However, when I just type in "http://tta-intranet/", I see the IIS Welcome screen.

How do I change the intranet's start screen to the "Hello World" form?

Thanks for the help.

You need to put your web.config back for starters. The fact it said there was a problem with it doesn't mean you need to delete it.

The iisstart file in wwwroot references a Microsoft image showing the IIS Welcome screen.  See attached code from the iisstart file
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

	margin:0;

#container {
	margin-left:auto;

a img {

</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="container">

Well the error says that there are two "scriptResourceHandler" sections in your web.config file. Check it through to make sure there aren't duplicates.

"scriptResourceHandler" was referenced three times in web.config.  I deleted one of the lines.  Now when I type tta-intranet into my development computer in IE, I still get the IIS7 blue welcome screen.

I suspect what is going wrong is that the contents of wwwroot are not correct or are configured incorrectly.

In wwwroot there are the following files:

Default.aspx
iisstart
Web.config

There are also the following folders:

aspnet_client
Web_Test   (this is my web app that displays Hello World)

What file(s) do I need to change in order for the Default.aspx form to display?  Or put another way, should I make changes to the way I am publishing the web project from within Visual Studio on my development computer?

Thank you for the help.

OK, I think I figured it out.  The iisstart file is the file that tells IIS which file to process first.  There must be some web site that explains how the IIS default files work.  Thanks for the help with the other issues.
