Problems with CodeIgniter in a subdirectory..??

I've got a CI solution up-and-running on a test server of mine at http://ci.developersandbox.net.  I'm trying to move that into www.mylivesite.com/demo/codeigniter.  I've copied everything exactly and uploaded it into this new directory on the live server.  When I browse to that, though, I get a 404 not found.  If I go back to just /demo I get a regular "forbidden" message.  Then I switch back to /demo/codenither (which I know exists, and has the same structure as it does on the other server) but I get a 404 not found.

I've made sure to update the /system/application/config/config.php so that the base_url matches the new site domain but I must be missing something.

The live site is a WordPress install on the root but /demo/codeigniter is outside of that.  Just for kicks I tried disabling the htaccess file on the site root but that didn't help.

Any information on how I can get this working would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
