I started my SharePoint site this morning and found out that the home pages goes to http://home/sites/xxx rather than http://home.

Other links to other parts of the site are ok, I did save them in my favourites.

Is there anyway I can redirect my home page link back to http://home ?

The home ( is the site collection HOME )

so you will have a (HOME ) at http://home and another (HOME) at any http://home/sites/site1

with that said , you will need to differentiate between the link to the Site collection home and a book mark .

Are  you the sharepoint admin , can you make changes to the system ?

I am a SharePoint admin, but I should be able to browse to the http://home, which was the home page.  But when I cam in this morning, when I try to go to home page, its redirecting to http://home/sites/site1 and errors as there is no such site.

I am guessing when you type http://home on your browser

your browser takes you to the Home site

but there is a Content webpart or a master page redirect that is doing that redirect.

Here is a simple test

[1] Use firefox and disable Javascripting .
[2] Go to that host page.

See if that work , if not , then you have a more complex issue

If that work , simply edit that part or content on the master page to remove the redirect.

also
If that is a IIS Server redirect check on the IIS server.
