add blackberry device to bes server

Hi there

I have a installed Blackberry Express Server Free BES. Installed on SBS2003 and got no errors + setup all the user permissions etc as per the install guide and guide below. Im on a standard BIS plan with the telecoms provider

However when I run the desktop manager I cannot attach a device to any of the users I've setup.

Im using the USB cable that came with it , I tried another cable and phone,  front and back usb ports but it still wont let me add the device when I connect it. Blackberry support say it has to be wired connection on the BIS plan and mentioned something about tethering.

The server install , sql database , besadmin user are all setup and work fine and Im managing everthing direct on the server

Any idea's

Are you using desktop manager on the BES? or on a workstation?
If you're connecting directly (via USB) to the BES then don't use desktop manager. Plug in the device, let it detect, and then within BAS, select your user and assign a device. You should see the PIN of your device listed.

thanks Johnny,

I found a solution via the bes support . You get a complementary support incident and I have to say they were very good,  They stick with you till its solved .  Essentially I should of intalled BES as BESadmin user  .  Ensure my my MAPI & CDO dll versions, Service packs were uptodate . Also you need to set alot of permissions but its all detailed in their documentation.

Recreate the mapi profile and uses to IEMStest.exe utility to test you have a connection.

Once that is all in place login to the admin panel , scan for the device and attach it to the user. Worked, sync's with outlook \ exchange etc.
