Hi,
Apologies for my little WordPress knowledge, I've just started. Can we have blocks in our template and through the admin panel we can control:

1. What is to be displayed in a particular block e.g. teaser of latest 5 posts under a category.

2. Control block visibility by the URL e.g. display a particular block only on home page and on /latest, /latest/*

In Drupal, its fairly simple, I'm sure its as simple in WordPress too, but I need direction to achieve this. Kindly guide me.

Thanks and Regards

Hi rajoo_sharma,

Blocks in WordPress are called widgets and they are built into the themes.  You control them going to Appearance | Widgets and the interface should be fairly self-explanatory from there.

To control widget visibility, you need an extra plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/dynamic-widgets/

Thanks Jason.

It was very helpful and I understand the concept now.

Do you suggest a widget for displaying video from YouTube?

Nothing specific.  There are a ton of widgets available via plugins to show video.  Just search the plugin list until you find one you like.
