sidebar wrapping under content on home page

I have a WordPress site set up and I'm having a couple of issues that prevent me from going live so I am attaching screenshots.

First of all on the home page, I have created a custom page called page2.php that I have set up to be the template for my homepage. I created a page and directed the page2.php to be the template for that page so that I can incorporate the slider on the home page I wish to. My problem is that the right sidebar is wrapping underneath the content. It doesn't matter if I set it to left or right, it wraps underneath.

Also on the home page, I have specific content that I filled in however, it seems to be pointing to content on another page when I test it in my browser. home page screen shot home page screen shot post page screen shot

Hi BluesMama,

The wrapping could be caused by a bad CSS entry.  Can we get a link to a live page to test?

You have the content div, then <div class=clearer> then the sidebar.

The clearer div is set to clear the floats, so the sidebar is going right where it is coded to go.

ok, found that one, now another question is can I set it so that both columns are flush no matter the size of the content? I don't want a tall side bar and nothing in content.

I'm also having the issue of the content I set for my home page isn't displaying.

That's a totally different question and you should probably repost it as such.  There is a way to use javascript and/or CSS to balance the height of columns but you may want to try this plugin before jumping into that solution:

In the admin panel, under Settings | Reading, what is set to be the home page?

when I navigate to the home page, the 10day camps page content shows up. But it's weird when I go into the dashboard to edit the page, the right content is there.

I'm at a slight disadvantage now because I can't see what you see.   Typically, when you override the default content you are changing the WP Loop behavior and if this is a completely custom theme, that can be problematic.

Have you tried disabling permalinks, then re-enabling and resetting the content?

I don't mean to sound stupid but how do I disable permalinks.

Settings | Permalinks

Set it to something else, then save.  Then reset it to your preference, save again.

Then go back to Settings | Reading and try to change default home page content.

Here is the code for the page I made the home page.
<?php /* Template Name: Home Page */ ?>

<?php

/**
 * @package WordPress
 * @subpackage Magzimus
 */
get_header(); ?>

<?php if(ts_getoption('ts_show_slider') == 1): ?>
    <div id="slider-container">
    	<div id="slider-window">
			<div id="slider">
	    		<?php get_slider_posts(5); ?>
    		</div>
    		<div class="clearer"></div>
    	</div>
    	<div class="nivo-controlNav">
    	<?php get_slider_thumbnails(5); ?>
    	</div>

    </div>

    <div class="clearer"></div>

	<div id="main" class="containerblock">

		<div id="content">

			<h2 class="post_title"><?php the_title(); ?></h2>

		    				<div class="clearer"></div>

			    			<div class="entry">

				    			<?php

				    				the_content();

				    				wp_link_pages();

				    				edit_post_link();

				    			?>

			    			</div>

		    				<div class="clearer"></div>

		    			</div>

			<?php else : ?>

				<div class="post">

		    		<div class="entry">

						<h2 class="title"><?php echo ts_getoption('ts_not_found_title'); ?></h2>

						<p><?php echo ts_getoption('ts_not_found_text'); ?></p>

					</div>

				</div>

		        <?php endif; ?>

		</div>

		<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

		<div class="clearer"></div>

	</div>

	<?php get_footer(); ?>

Open in new window

The page you made the home page should be a page stored in the WP page system...is it?

What I think you did is make a page template with content pre-filled but that's not the same as making a WordPress "page"

One is a container, the other is a semi-dynamic object that can be inserted as the default content

My problem that is is that if I did not do it the way I did, I can't include the home page slider. Unless there is another way of adding the slider that I'm missing?

You can create post and page templates which can be chosen from the sidebar on the Page Editor.  But the content needs to be saved in the database, not in the .php files.

ok, so how would I then incorporate the home page slider into a static page template?

We're pretty far past the original question at this point.  We've solved the dropping sidebar and diagnosed the issue with the content (test it by creating a new page in the system and then replacing the default content with the newly created page).   You're going to need someone a bit more familiar with WordPress anatomy than I am.  My guess is you will actually need to customize your header.php file to display different headers based on the content being shown by WordPress but this stuff is still a level beyond where I am comfortable.

I suggest you close this now and post the remaining issue again in WordPress, HTML, PHP.  That will get the attention of some different folks who will be better able to help you.
