i need to know if cisco asa 5510 or 5505 in transparent mode can be configured to use ids or ips?

Config guide says its supported.  From http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa83/configuration/guide/ips.html#wp1087111:

Firewall Mode Guidelines
Supported in routed and transparent firewall mode.
