EXTENDED PING WITH ALERTS

Does anyone know of a ping or related tool that will allow me to monitor circuit/connectivity uptime, then alert me if there is disruption.

I would prefer not to have to use What's Up Gold or a like mangement/monitoring program

perhaps something like ping alert?
