Error when trying to sync HTC Evo to Exchange 2003

When trying to configure an Android HTC Evo to exchange server 2003, I get the following error.  "failed to create the account. Please try again later."

Customer replaced a Windows phone which worked just fine so ActiveSync is enabled on the server.

Any ideas?

I think I found a possible fix.  HTC required at least Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2.  The server I am working on has SP1.  Now I need to get the customer's approval to install the update.
Make sure the mobile device firmware is up to date. I've seen several issues with Android's 2.1 firmware and our Exchange 2010 environment.

Yes, I checked that.  They are running Android 2.2.

Upgrading to Exchange Service Pack 2 resolved the issue.  Once installed, the Android connected successfully.
