FM - Creating a List of Document via Container Field

I asked this in a previous question, but, to be fair, it should be completely separate (not an aspect of my original question):  How can you create a list of documents that dynamically show depending on what record you are on.  Here is ChallengeDay's response with my followup question:

Sure, you could have a Document table, with a foreign key to tenants (or properties, or however you want to structure), so that for each tenant you could show a list of related documents in a portal. In the document have a field that calculates the filepath, with GetAsText ( FileContainer ). Then the portal shows all of the documents and their filepaths. Then if someone clicks on the icon of the file it opens it right up. (Files have to be stored as references for this scheme to work.)

This is really cool and seems straightforward enough (I'm very comfortable with portals and related tables), but I'm drawing a blank on what GetAsText (FileContainer) has to do with this.

Hi rvfowler,

The GetAsText ( FileContainer ) simply gives you a field that shows the filepath, nothing else. I'll throw together a fast example for you.

Oh, I feel dumb.  You meant that (FileContainer) was simply the name of the file container field, correct?

ChallengeDay, the sample db you sent me is brilliant.  Can you post it in this question?  Though I may have 2-5 tabs and a web view or container field on each tab for the 2-5 most common tenant documents, your document table and portal allows for a large # of misc documents to be stored as a reference in FM.  I could even do both, listing my main 2-5 documents in the doc table/portal as well, since I could then bring this table into layouts other than the main Tenant one.  You should make an article out of this.

Hi rvfowler,

Sorry, I was out of town on a family issue that took all of my attention.

I'm glad you liked the sample db. I'm uploading it here.

Yes, I'd like to write an article and will when I can find the time. Thanks!
